What is Battleground?

Battleground is the ultimate competitive gaming platform. We provide high quality, free servers for you to play on. We track your stats and award you Battle Tokens for every kill (and penalize you for every death). At the end of the month you can use your Battle Tokens to enter sweepstakes for awesome gaming gear - the better you perform, the better your chances of winning.

Do I have to have the Xfire client to compete on Battleground?

Yes. Here’s why: We use the Xfire client to provide automated game launch and to authenticate/place you into the right server, track your performance, and award you with Battle Tokens.

Do I need to own a copy of a game in order to compete on Battleground?

Yes. Battleground provides a meta service that supplements many popular competitive games, but we do not provide free copies of those games to players. We do try to support as many free-to-play games as possible, but we try to support the games that have the biggest, most active competitive communities. It is each player’s responsibility to ensure that they have the most recent copy of any game they wish to play with Battleground.

Can I log into Battleground with my Xfire ID?

Absolutely. We’re confident that you would rather spend your time playing games than signing up for accounts.

Is there a way for me to change my Battleground username?

No. We're trying to build a competitive community where everyone feels safe that everyone else is playing by the rules. That's why we want players to use one account (only one account is allowed per email address on Battleground) and keep the same in-game name as their account name. You can change your in-game name through a games native settings but we highly prefer you do not. We are instructing our admins to ask users to change their names back to their Battleground name if they change it in-game. Not complying may result being kicked from the server.

I have a great idea / I have problems with your service / It's broken!

What is Instant Action?

Instant Action is Battleground’s get-in-and-go competitive format. No scheduling required, it’s as easy as competitive gaming gets. Just hit the Quick play button or select a server for your preferred game and start playing for Battle Tokens.

How do I earn Battle Tokens in Instant Action?

You earn Battle Tokens through racking up kills, performing difficult tasks, winning matches, etc. The rules differ from game to game, but the general idea is skillful performances and winning rewards you with Battle Tokens. Conversely, poor performances and losing will deduct Battle Tokens from your balance. Don’t slack!

I got Kicked from an Instant Action server! What Happened?

You need a minimum balance of 10 Battle Tokens to compete in Instant Action games. Check your balance by visiting the Battleground homepage. If you run out of Battle Tokens you will see a link appear next to your Token balance. Simply click this link and follow the instructions to get back in the game!

What are Battle Tokens and how do I get them?

Battle Tokens are a virtual currency that can be earned by playing in Instant Action games, and in the future by participating in the Xfire and Battleground communities, or in offers from our partners.

I've got Battleground Tokens, what do I do with them?

Battleground Tokens allow you to enter into sweepstakes. The more you have the better your chances are to win. For more information and to enter a sweepstakes, visit the Prizes page. Battleground Tokens are also required to play Instant Action games.

I live in a state or country that does not allow me to play in tournaments for prizes - does this mean that I cannot compete on Battleground?

Not entirely. Battleground has many ways to participate in fun events. You may not be able to play for cash or sweepstakes entry, but you can play for fun.

Battleground is telling me that I cannot play in tournaments because I live in a state or country that does not allow me to participate in online events - what does this mean?

Not all States or Countries allow skill gaming. Unfortunately this means that your state or country does not allow its citizens to participate in the type of match you are trying to compete in. Please contact your local political representative to voice your displeasure. We’re just following the law.

I attempted to launch and Instant Action game but nothing happened - what do I do?

Make sure you follow these steps:

  • Make sure Xfire is running and you are signed in.
  • Make sure that you do not have the game running - we need to be able to launch the game through Xfire in order to properly authenticate you.
  • Clear your browser cache and refresh the page.
  • Try the launch again once the previous steps have been completed.

I’m trying to join an Instant Action game of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on Windows XP and nothing happens.

If you have a steam copy of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, please make sure Steam is completely closed, then try to launch it from the website.

I'm trying to join an Instant Action game of Counter Strike: Source on Windows XP and nothing happens.

Unfortunately Instant Action does not currently support Counter-Strike: Source on Windows XP. We’re working diligently on rectifying the issue but in the meantime you can try Instant Action for Counter-Strike: Source with Windows Vista, 7, or 8 or hop into a Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Instant Action game.
